Black Australorp is an abbreviation of the name Australian Black Orpington. They were developed in Australia from Black Orpingtons with an emphasis on egg production. Black Australorp chicks are primarily black with white wing tips, chest and abdomen. They have single combs and clean, white and black legs and feet. Adults have solid black plumage with a notable green sheen that is more pronounced in the sunlight. Like most black varieties, they may have some white in the wing tips before they reach maturity.
